Each day begins with movement, breath, and strength-building practices designed to create space in both body and mind. Founder of Ritual Union Retreats and Hola Yoga, Melissa Joy Schoeller has led more than 100 yoga, wellness, fitness, and adventure retreats around the world. Her retreats are known for blending movement, meaningful connection, exploration, and unforgettable experiences in beautiful destinations worldwide.
Melissa’s approach is rooted in community, personal growth, and creating spaces where people can slow down, recharge, reconnect with themselves, and build lasting friendships. Whether leading yoga, Pilates, fitness classes, sound healing, hiking adventures, or retreat experiences, her goal is simple: help people come home to themselves while experiencing the beauty of the world.
Ella Tabares
Ella is a nomadic soul with a deep love for adventure, movement, and the ocean. She's the founder of Shred Sisters, created with the goal to empower women through board sports. She's a first-generation American raised in Miami with time in California, traveling the world since 2017— now based between Nicaragua and El Salvador, she’s fluent in Spanish, allowing for deeper connection with local communities and culture. Ella trained and practices mostly Vinyasa and Yin, interweaving the balance of yin and yang into everything she does. For Ella, surfing and yoga are more than movement; they're pathways to presence, self-awareness, and healing, and she’s excited to share that with you.

Getting There
The closest airport to Amaru is the Managua Airport (MGA), located about 4 to 4.5 hours away from our resort. We will set up your transporttation to/from the airport. To enter Nicaragua, your passport needs to be valid for 6 months. All visitors entering Nicaragua are required to purchase a Tourist Card for $10 USD.
Reserve Your Spot
Space is limited! Secure your spot with a 15% deposit and pay the remainder of the retreat in full by 60 days before when the retreat begins, or sign up for a monthly payment plan which requires a $500 deposit to secure your spot.
FAQs
All the details on SURFING!
We’re going to be staying in the remote region of Northern Nicaragua known as “The Boom”. This is one of the most consistent surf zones in the country. The stretch around Aserradores offers waves for different skill levels.
Amaru is located walking distance from The Boom. The Boom can be quite an intense wave, famous for its consistent perfect barrels. There are a few peaks to choose from in this A-frame beach break. Fast take-offs and recommended for more advanced surfers. Best on mid-to high tide, off-shore morning conditions.
Right in front of Amaru is Aposentillo Beach which is a quieter mellow beach break in front of the resort that is ideal for beginners, longboarders, and improving skills.
Accessible by boat, La Isla is a nearby left-hand point break that can handle significant swell and can be good for intermediate-advanced.
A short drive away is Nahualapa Bay, a softer, more forgiving beach break also suitable for all levels.
The surf package is offered as an add-on, and you have a few choices. You can opt to go independently and you could rent a surfboard at the hotel or bring your own board.
You can choose a guiding/lessons package which would include transportation to the surf (vehicle or boat), instructor (1:3 ratio), board rental and cooler with drinks.
You can also opt-into the full surf- coaching package which would include video analysis, surf theory sessions, paddle training, surf skate training, and land based exercises.
